Region
The Langtang region is the trekking area closest to Kathmandu, a glacial valley below the 7,227 m Langtang Lirung reached by a 7 to 8 hour drive to Syabrubesi. Treks here run 7 to 12 days, reach 3,870 m at Kyanjin Gompa and 4,984 m on Tserko Ri, and need a single Langtang National Park permit (NPR 3,000) plus a TIMS card (NPR 2,000). No flight is involved, which makes Langtang the lowest-cost and lowest-hassle of Nepal's classic trekking regions.

Routes
The absence of a mountain flight is the reason: Langtang skips the USD 360 to 440 Lukla round trip that anchors every Everest budget, and its bus or jeep transfer to Syabrubesi costs a fraction of that. A 7-day Langtang Valley trek runs USD 650 to 950 with a guide, against USD 1,200-plus for the shortest Everest option. The trade is altitude ceiling: Langtang tops out lower than the Khumbu, so it draws trekkers who want Himalayan scale without crossing 5,000 m.
The 2015 earthquake buried Langtang village and killed more than 300 people, and the rebuilt village sits slightly uphill of the original site.
